Paraeducator -1:1 Achieve: Special Education (2026-27)
About the role
The Paraeducator (Special Education) position is responsible for providing support to students with special needs in a classroom setting. This includes assisting with daily activities, implementing behavior intervention plans, and working collaboratively with teachers and other staff.
Responsibilities
- Support students with special education needs in the classroom
- Implement behavior intervention plans as outlined in the Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan
- Work collaboratively with teachers, other paraeducators, and support staff to ensure the best possible learning environment for students
- Assist with daily activities such as meal times, bathroom breaks, and transitions between activities
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with individuals with special needs is preferred but not required
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Qualifications
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- Passing score on the Washington State Paraeducator Competency Exam
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of special education principles and practices
