Palo Verde Engineering Summer Internship (Civil Engineer)

About the Program

Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking full-time ABET-accredited engineering students for the Palo Verde Summer Internship, a paid 10-week program designed to provide real-world experience in business, engineering, and information systems. Interns will engage in meaningful individual and group projects, receive support from leaders, and participate in professional development opportunities, company tours, and networking events. The program runs from May to July and includes housing for in-person internships.

Multiple positions are available across various engineering disciplines. Primary recruitment occurs through college career fairs.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in a qualifying engineering discipline or related applied science field. Approved degrees include:

• A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not automatically equivalent to a B.S. in Engineering; curriculum review by Engineering department management is required.
• Must demonstrate ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum GPA of 3.2
• Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate Civil Engineering program
• Knowledge and ability to apply basic discipline engineering principles, practices, and theories
• Familiarity with commonly applied engineering approaches, calculations, and problem analysis/resolution techniques
• Understanding of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the relevant engineering discipline

Responsibilities

• Perform simple to intermediate analysis and designs
• Assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, and studies
• Conduct research, business documentation, studies, or technical reviews; analyze, investigate, verify, and summarize findings in written reports or oral presentations
• Utilize internal resources to learn business/engineering operations and apply this knowledge to complete work assignments
• Coordinate efforts with other disciplines and departments to achieve project goals and task assignments
• Perform other related duties as required

Nuclear Requirements

• Any PVGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and must fulfill this obligation as a condition of employment.
• Employees may be required to support refueling or short-notice outages, including line roles and responsibilities to execute outage activities.

This position may require access to information subject to U.S. Export Control Laws (e.g., Department of Energy’s Part 810 Regulations, Export Administration Regulations, or International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
