About the Program

Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking full-time ABET-accredited engineering students for the Palo Verde Summer Internship, a paid 10-week program designed to provide real-world experience in business, engineering, and information systems. Interns will engage in meaningful individual and group projects, receive support from leaders, and participate in professional development opportunities, company tours, and networking events. The program runs from May to July and includes housing for in-person internships.

Multiple positions are available across various engineering disciplines. Primary recruitment occurs through college career fairs.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in an engineering discipline or related applied science (e.g., Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Architectural, Structural).
  • Note: A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not automatically equivalent to a B.S. in Engineering; curriculum review required.
  • Demonstrated ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Mechanical or Chemical Engineering program
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic engineering principles, practices, and theories
  • Familiarity with commonly used engineering approaches, calculations, and problem analysis/resolution techniques
  • Understanding of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the relevant engineering discipline

Responsibilities

  • Perform simple to intermediate analysis and designs
  • Assist in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, and studies
  • Conduct research, document business/engineering studies, and perform technical reviews
  • Analyze, investigate, verify, and summarize findings in written reports or oral presentations
  • Utilize internal resources to learn business/engineering operations and apply knowledge to work assignments
  • Coordinate with other disciplines/departments to achieve project goals
  • Perform other related duties as required

Nuclear Requirements

  • Employees at Palo Verde Generating Station (PVGS) may be called upon to serve as members of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and must fulfill ERO obligations as a condition of employment.
  • Employees may be required to support refueling or short-notice outages, including line roles and responsibilities.

Export Compliance

This position may require access to information controlled under U.S. Export Control Laws (e.g., DOE Part 810, EAR, or ITAR). Applicants must confirm U.S. person status (U.S. Citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee). All positions at Palo Verde Generating Station require applicants to be U.S. persons.
