Palo Verde Engineering Summer Internship (Electrical/Computer Engineer)

About the role

APS is looking for full-time ABET-accredited Engineering students to participate in the Palo Verde Summer Internship, a paid 10-week program starting in May and ending in July. This internship provides real-world experience through meaningful individual and group projects, professional development opportunities, and exposure to senior leadership. Interns will receive housing during the program if participating in person. The program includes:

• Challenging, innovative assignments that apply business and engineering education to short-term projects
• Exposure to senior leadership and insights into the energy industry
• A dedicated manager and mentor for guidance throughout the internship
• Professional and personal development activities, networking events, and company tours
• Opportunities to shadow professionals in various engineering disciplines
• Presentation of summer project results to the Engineering Senior Leadership Team

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline. Approved degrees include: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Architectural, or Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered equivalent without review of the curriculum by Engineering department management.)
• Must demonstrate ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum GPA of 3.2
• Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline
• Knowledge and ability to apply basic engineering principles, practices, and theories
• Familiarity with commonly applied engineering approaches, calculations, and problem analysis/resolution techniques
• Understanding of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the relevant engineering discipline

Responsibilities

• Perform simple to intermediate analysis and designs, potentially assisting in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, and studies
• Assist in research, business documentation, studies, or technical reviews, conducting analyses, investigations, and verifications
• Summarize results or findings in written reports or oral presentations
• Utilize internal resources to learn business/engineering operations and apply learning to work assignments
• Coordinate efforts with other disciplines or departments to achieve project goals
• Perform other related duties as required

Nuclear Requirements

• Any PVGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and must fulfill this obligation as a condition of employment
• Employees may be required to support refueling or short-notice outages, including line roles and responsibilities to execute outage activities

Positions at Palo Verde Generating Stations (PVGS) require applicants to be a U.S. person.
