May 2027 Student Internship – Civil Engineer

Responsibilities
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographic and geologic data to plan and design projects.
- Calculate costs, determine project feasibility based on collected data, and prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to create engineering and design documents.
- Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, legal documentation, easements, and designs for projects.
- Meet with clients periodically to coordinate changes, address additional requirements, receive input, answer questions, and resolve issues.
- Coordinate with government officials to obtain required approvals and permits for assigned projects.
- Collaborate with appropriate officials, support staff, subcontractors, labs, and other entities to manage project activity.
- Track project progress and prepare reports of activity in accordance with regulations, company policy, and client needs.
- Research regulations, products, and design techniques to address client needs.
- Stay current with changing techniques, materials, codes, regulations, and software through seminars, briefings, and other forums.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree (BS) program from an accredited Engineering school.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to write speeches and articles conforming to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and boards of directors.
- Proficiency in mathematical concepts such as algebraic functions, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry, with the ability to apply them to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret complex technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables.
- Knowledge of database, design, internet, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The primary work environment is a temperature-controlled office setting. On occasion, travel for meetings in various weather conditions may be required. The noise level is usually moderate.
