Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry with business in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Norwalk, Iowa location produces high-quality precooked egg patties and various French toast products.

Responsibilities

The Packer is responsible for packing finished high-quality frozen egg products in cases according to customer specifications. This role ensures product safety, quality, and compliance with food safety regulations while maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Sort, count, and pack frozen egg products according to customer specifications while keeping pace with machinery and the conveyor system.
  • Conduct quality checks on the product and packaging using a computerized system.
  • Fold and inspect the required products.
  • Read scales and check case weights according to customer specifications.
  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs. safely.
  • Work in teams to ensure the conveyor system does not back up or become jammed with product.
  • Rotate to different positions during shift.
  • Determine if product meets proper specifications and take corrective action as needed.
  • Assist in general housekeeping of the area.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, and maintain sanitary conditions to ensure product quality.
  • Inspect products to verify proper size, shape, and color; sort out any product damages or non-conforming items.
  • Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.
  • Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words in English and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform operations using units of American weight measurement.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.

Schedule

This position works a 12-hour day shift (6 AM – 6 PM) on a 2-2-3 rotation ("A" shift):

  • Week 1: Work Monday – Tuesday, off Wednesday – Thursday, work Friday – Sunday.
  • Week 2: Off Monday – Tuesday, work Wednesday – Thursday, off Friday – Sunday.

Every other weekend is a 3-day weekend scheduled off work.
