Overnight Veterinary Assistant - Emergency

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

Pay

Pay range: $20.32 - $30.00 (dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool).

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00 shift differential
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00 shift differential
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50 shift differential

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and reviewing estimates as needed.
• Perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.).
• Set up patients in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharge patients, and handle client communication.
• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exams; accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
