Overnight Veterinary Assistant - Emergency
About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVMs with crafting and going over estimates as needed. They also perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc.), set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharge patients, and handle client communication.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
- Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Requirements
As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. You should possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of practice.
- Experience in emergency veterinary care preferred.
- Knowledge of pharmacology and ability to administer medications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The position is full-time with rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
