Responsibilities
- Assisting veterinarians during large animal emergency examinations and treatments
- Monitoring hospitalized equine and farm animal patients overnight
- Administering medications, IV fluids, and prescribed treatments
- Placing and maintaining IV catheters
- Collecting laboratory samples and performing diagnostics
- Aiding in emergency procedures and surgical preparation
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Communicating patient updates to the veterinary team during shift changes
- Safely handling horses, cattle, and other large animal species
- Supporting occasional mixed animal emergency cases when needed
Requirements
- Previous experience working with horses, livestock, or in a mixed animal practice
- Veterinary technician experience in emergency, equine, or large animal medicine
- CVT, LVT, or RVT credentials (preferred but not required)
- Comfortable safely handling horses and large animal patients
- Strong technical and critical thinking skills
- Able to work independently during overnight shifts
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Dependable, organized, and adaptable in a fast-paced emergency setting
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT)
- Experience with large animal emergency care
- Knowledge of large animal anatomy and physiology
- Ability to lift and move large animals
