About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department in Monterey, CA on an overnight basis. We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant/Technician who knows how to run anesthesia. Not required to be a licensed technician.
Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases as they come in
- Aid DVMs in crafting and reviewing estimates as needed
- Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
- Set up patients in ICU or Inpatient ward
- Discharge patients
- Handle client communication
- Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
- Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
- Perform phlebotomy
- Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
Requirements
This is a starting point and is dependent on experience based on the Kahuna leveling system. Schedule: Sunday-Wednesday from 8pm-6:30am (full-time)

Sunday-Wednesday from 8pm-6:30am (full-time)
Shift differentials
- Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.00 Shift Differential
- Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.50 Shift Differential
