About the role

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department in Reno, NV in an overnight capacity. The position offers competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency cases as they come in
  • Absorb and go over estimates as needed
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
  • Set up patients in ICU or Inpatient ward
  • Discharge patients
  • Handle client communication
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitor therapeutic response
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Nevada
  • Experience in emergency veterinary care preferred
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills

Pay

Pay range: $18.45 - $27.35 / hour, dependent on experience and advancement through the Kahuna leveling system.

Schedule

Shift: 6pm-6am - one weekend shift required per week
