Overnight Emergency Veterinary Assistant

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department at our Levittown, PA Hospital! Responsibilities

• Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
• Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
• Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward.
• Discharge patients.
• Handle client communication.
• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand pharmacology, basic medical math, and IV fluid therapy: classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriate monitoring of therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately measure heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
