Overhead Crews - All Positions (Foreman, A Line, B Line, C Line, Operator, Groundman)

About the role

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks Overhead Crew positions (Foreman/A Lineman/B Lineman/C Lineman/Operator/Groundman). Successful candidate will possess existing experience as a construction crew. Preference may be given to candidates who are able to bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire crews. Responsibilities

• Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required.

• Total commitment to safety and compliance.
• Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all electrical distribution and associated equipment projects.
• Communicate, demonstrate and enforce safety requirements and best practices.
• Manage supplies, materials and equipment.
• Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work.
• Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
• Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
• Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
• Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
• Comprehend, interpret and follow direction from Crew Foreman and senior crew members.
• Comprehend and apply training in Safety, First Aid and job/task specific topics.
• Comply with safety regulations and guidelines.
• Assist with planning, directing and budget activities concerned with the construction of a pole line and other electrical material and equipment used for distribution line construction projects.
• Operate heavy equipment such as line/bucket trucks, knuckle cranes, digger derricks, etc.
• Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
• Perform various manual tasks in the construction & maintenance of overhead power lines.
• Flag traffic and set up job sites as directed.
• Assemble materials on the ground and hoist them into the work area using handlines and other safe methods.
• Assist other crew members digging/filling pole holes and trenches using a shovel.
• Perform set up, clean up and organizing of job sites.
• May receive training in the operation of vehicles, light equipment and tools.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL.
• Familiarity with induced voltage.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints and scopes of work.
• Ability to coordinate & collaborate effectively with multiple levels within company.
• Ability to work at heights up to and above 60 feet.
• Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
• Knowledge of proper equipment set-up.
• Knowledge of materials used in line work.
• Knowledge of minimum approach distance.
• Knowledge of flag and tag procedures.
• Knowledge of grounding procedures.
• Knowledge of bucket rescue/escape.
