About the role
Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks multiple Overhead Crews (Foreman/A Lineman/B Lineman/C Lineman/Operator/Groundman). Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who are able to bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews.
Responsibilities
- Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
- Able/willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Able/willing to work Overtime, when required.
- Total commitment to safety and compliance.
- Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all electrical distribution and associated equipment projects.
- Communicate, demonstrate and enforce safety requirements and best practices.
- Manage supplies, materials and equipment.
- Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work.
- Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
- Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.

- Equipment Operator: PROFICIENT in safe operation of heavy equipment such as line/bucket trucks, knuckle cranes, digger derricks, etc.
- Groundman: Able to comprehend, interpret and follow direction from Crew Foreman and senior crew members.
Qualifications

- Proficiency in all aspects of energized line work.
- Proficiency in understanding and reading blueprints.
- Proficiency in operation of Bucket Truck, Digger Derrick, Backhoe, etc.
- Proficiency in Pole/Tower Climbing.
- Proficiency in heavy lifting and rigging.
- Knowledge of induced voltage.
- Understanding of grounding procedures.
- Ability to work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Ability to properly install and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.).
- Understanding of how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
- Understanding of proper use of phasing sticks.
- Ability to identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Ability to lead a Job Task Safety Analysis meeting or tailgate briefing.
- Ability to safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
- Ability to properly inspect rubber goods, covers and PPE.
