About the role

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) is seeking experienced Overhead Crews including Foreman, Lineman, Operator, and Groundman positions. Preference is given to candidates who can bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews. Safety is a core value, and substantial weight will be given to candidates demonstrating their commitment to safe operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all electrical distribution and associated equipment projects.
  • Coordinate essential personnel on-site for the project to include crew mobilization.
  • Communicate, demonstrate and enforce safety requirements and best practices.
  • Manage supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Assist with planning, directing and budget activities concerned with the construction of a pole line and other electrical material and equipment used for distribution line construction projects.
  • Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work.
  • Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required.
  • Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor as required.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
  • Perform various manual tasks in the construction & maintenance of overhead power lines.

Requirements

  • Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Able/willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Able/willing to work Overtime, when required.
  • Total commitment to safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Able to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints and scopes of work.
  • Able to coordinate & collaborate effectively with multiple levels within company.
  • Able to work alone on de-energized lines.
  • Able to work at heights up to and above 60 feet preferred.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Familiar with induced voltage.
  • Familiar with grounding procedures.
  • Familiar with minimum approach distance.
  • Familiar with flag and tag procedures.
  • Familiar with bucket rescue/escape.
  • Familiar with proper equipment set-up.
  • Familiar with materials used in line work.

Skills

  • Proficient in all aspects of energized line work.
  • Proficient in pole/tower climbing.
  • Proficient in heavy lifting and rigging.
  • Proficient in bucket truck, digger derrick, backhoe operations.
  • Proficient in sag wire operations.
  • Proficient in hot line work.
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining PPE and covers.
  • Proficient in various lineman knots.
  • Proficient in hand line usage.
  • Proficient in wire stringing techniques.
  • Proficient in compression connection installation.
  • Proficient in pole setting and anchoring.
  • Proficient in vehicle maintenance.
  • Proficient in emergency response procedures.
