Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks experienced Overhead Crews including Foreman, Lineman, Operator, and Groundman positions. Preference may be given to candidates who can bring along additional qualified candidates.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices, and Groundmen on maintenance and construction projects.
- Coordinate essential personnel on-site for projects, including crew mobilization.
- Communicate and enforce safety requirements and best practices.
- Manage supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work.
- Communicate with various project personnel as required.
- Understand and follow detailed construction schedules.
- Perform rigorous physical labor, including climbing, rigging, lifting, rescue operations, etc.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits, and perform energized line work.
- Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, backhoes, and other equipment.
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors.
- Assist with assembling and erecting poles to all heights.
- Install and remove PPE and cover up.
- Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
- Inspect and recognize structural problems.
- Work productively from an aerial device.
- Assist with troubleshooting.
- Work alone on de-energized lines.
- Install and remove mechanical jumpers.
- Properly inspect rubber goods, covers, and PPE.
- Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
- Understand and apply grounding procedures.
- Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Receive and follow directions.
- Understand the basic concepts of equipment set up and grounding.
- Make up and use a hand line.
- Understand minimum approach distance.
- Understand flag and tag procedures.
- Work safely while operating heavy equipment such as line/bucket trucks, knuckle cranes, digger derricks, etc.
- Operate and maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Perform various manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of overhead power lines.
- Comprehend, interpret, and follow direction from Crew Foreman and senior crew members.
- Apply training in Safety, First Aid, and job/task specific topics.
- Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude in dealings with co-workers, customers, subcontractors, and the general public.
- Assemble materials on the ground and hoist them into the work area using handlines and other safe methods.
- Flag traffic and set up job sites as directed.
- Maintain organization of tools and materials on work vehicles.
- Perform set up, clean up, and organizing of job sites.
- May receive training in the operation of vehicles, light equipment, and tools.
Requirements
- Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
- Able/willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Able/willing to work overtime, when required.
- Total commitment to safety and compliance.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with induced voltage.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and scopes of work.
- Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility crews is required.
- Ability to work at heights up to and above 60 feet preferred.
- Valid Class A CDL is highly preferred.
- Active enrollment in SUI apprenticeship program (high school diploma or equivalent is required for program enrollment).
- Ability to communicate effectively, demonstrate, and encourage teamwork skills.
- Ability to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace.
