Overhead Crew - All Positions (Foreman/A, B , C Lineman/Operator/Groundman

About the role

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) is seeking an Overhead Foreman. Preference may be given to candidates who can bring along additional qualified candidates to form entire work crews. Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision & technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices and Groundmen performing maintenance & construction on all electrical distribution and associated equipment projects.

• Coordinate essential personnel on-site for the project to include crew mobilization
• Communicate, demonstrate and enforce safety requirements and best practices
• Possess comfort level with using new technologies (mobile devices/apps)
• Manage supplies, materials and equipment
• Aid in planning, directing and budget activities concerned with the construction of a pole line and other electrical material and equipment used for distribution line construction projects
• Read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and scopes of work
• Communicate directly with General Foremen, Superintendents, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Line Crews and other project personnel as required
• Understand and follow detailed construction schedules

Requirements

• Able/willing to travel long distances on short notice, when required
• Able/willing to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
• Able/willing to work overtime, when required
• Total commitment to safety and compliance

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints and scopes of work
• Coordination & collaboration with multiple levels within the company
• Willingness to travel and work away from home
• Experience with digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, and groundwork with utility crews is required
• Ability to work at heights up to and above 60 feet preferred
• Valid Class A CDL is highly preferred
• Must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate & encourage teamwork skills and able to understand, comprehend, and follow directions in the workplace
• Quality work ethic and commitment to optimal Customer Service

Skills

• Proficiency in all aspects of energized line work
• Ability to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit
• Proficiency in bucket truck, digger derrick, backhoe, and pole/tower climbing
• Knowledge of induced voltage and grounding procedures
• Ability to work at heights and/or confined spaces
• Ability to properly install and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and coverings
• Ability to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so
• Understanding of how to phase out a line using phasing sticks
• Understanding of proper use of phasing sticks
• Ability to identify and locate puller and tensioner setups
• Ability to lead a Job Task Safety Analysis meeting or tailgate briefing
• Ability to safely install and remove mechanical jumpers
• Knowledge to properly inspect rubber goods, covers, and PPE
