About the Role
Responsible for performing all the duties required of an optician, in addition to managerial duties. This position manages, teaches, and coaches the optical team members, interacts with Members, confirms appointments, and ensures department upkeep. The Optical Manager serves as the liaison between our members and the lab to ensure timely processing of orders. The pay range advertised does not include additional compensation paid out through our Manager Bonus and spiff programs.
Responsibilities
- Provides a high level of Member service, including answering all incoming calls, scheduling patients for eye exams, maintaining open and honest communication, and a friendly demeanor with Members.
- Supports Members in making eyeglass adjustments, taking measurements, reading prescriptions on the lensometer, timely notification of product readiness, handling money-related transactions, and completing necessary paperwork.
- Manages Optical department team members, ensuring engagement with Members both in person and over the phone.
- Maintains discretion and adheres to privacy and confidentiality policies (e.g., HIPAA) due to access to patient information.
- Manages all sales opening and closing procedures, ensuring accurate fund collection and payments.
- Strives to meet sales and metric goals by educating patients on product benefits and recommending suitable products.
- Engages with members in front of Optical during downtime.
- Communicates with Club Manager and Regional Optical Manager regarding department performance, maintenance, team member performance, and doctor relations.
- Ensures the workstation/Optical department is clean and maintained at all times.
- Supervises all team members in the Optical department, including training, separations, promotions, and coaching.
- Maintains all club policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned; regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.

- Acquires deep knowledge of key metrics and reporting for total club and department performance.
- Drives performance and profitability by identifying trends and areas of opportunity.
- Anticipates process breakdowns and corrects them before impacting club metrics.

Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a retail Optical setting.
- High school diploma, college degree, or experience in big box wholesale, retail, optical, and/or management preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managing/supervising cross-functional teams, training, and driving results.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Open shift availability required.
- At least 18 years of age.
Environmental Job Conditions
- Most time spent moving frequently on hard surfaces; occasional bending, handling, pulling, reaching, or stooping.
- Frequently lifts objects up to 20 pounds; may require lifting and moving objects over 20 pounds with assistance.
- Located in a comfortable indoor area with frequent exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises; occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
- Requires use of Optical hand tools to adjust and repair eyeglasses, including insertion and removal of nose pads and small screws.
Qualifications
Knowledge of optical products and business practices preferred.

Pay
The pay range for this position starts at $22.00 per hour. Actual salaries vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications.
