Ophthalmic Technician / Ophthalmology

Essential Functions

• Aids Ophthalmologist or Optometrist with eye care in the office setting.
• Prepares examination and treatment rooms, reviews appointment schedule.
• Performs basic and routine vision screening examinations, administers eye medications, cleans and maintains ophthalmic instruments.
• Assists physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
• Prepares patients for eye exams, performs/assists with all tests and procedures.
• Obtains patient history, performs entrance testing, manages patient flow, and assists the doctor as needed.
• Maintains proficiency with lensometers, visual field testing, keratometer readings, tonometry, contact lens instruction, BAT testing, and topography.
• Maintains patient flow and returns phone calls per instruction.
• Sterilizes instruments, maintains supplies and equipment, and ensures accurate documentation.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Required.
• Preferred Degree as an Ophthalmic Tech, Ophthalmic Medical Tech, or Ophthalmic Assistant.

Experience Qualifications

• One year recent Ophthalmic experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current and valid certification as a Ophthalmic Tech, Ophthalmic Medical Tech, or Ophthalmic Assistant preferred.
• Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required.
• Current and valid Medication Aide Registration with the Nebraska State Medication Aide Registry within 90 Days required.
