Orchid Orthopedic Solutions provides solutions for orthopedic implant procedures enabling a longer, active life. The Lansing facility specializes in the forging and machining of hip and knee implants across our 3 campus.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop team members following the One Orchid global talent management approach to select, manage, and develop our best team.
- Ensure the growth of our positive business culture through behaviors that align with our core values and leadership competencies.
- Provide direction to employees directly engaged in shop-floor processes or operations.
- Ensure that the process/area maintains operations by managing employee performance and absences.
- Review production schedules, assign work, coordinate set-up, and ensure that materials are available to complete scheduled work.
- Supervise work activities and resourcing for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications under the guidance of the Manager of Operations.
- Manage labor and resource requirements such as materials, headcount, overtime needs, and equipment.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, worker performance, quality, and delivery of product.
- Utilize knowledge of continuous improvement concepts to improve plant efficiency and productivity using the A3 process.
- Coordinate and monitor workflow through cells/departments to ensure established task times are met.
- Move work and create production gaps as required for maintenance to complete repairs or preventative maintenance.
- Report department metrics and lead daily Gemba walks and lean daily management (LDM).
- Keep the Manager, Operations promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.
- Establish or adjust work priorities to meet production schedules.
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of procedures and ensure compliance.
- Manage employee performance, reward high performers, and address underperforming employees.
- Write and deliver performance evaluations and development plans, utilizing feedback from Team Leads.
- Address employee issues, escalate and/or redirect as needed, and involve Human Resources when necessary.
- Participate in the selection of talent for the organization, including hiring and termination decisions.
- Continuously develop the team by ensuring employees have the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in their roles.
- Identify skill gaps and develop/implement action plans to address and eliminate these gaps.
- Consult with others regarding policies, procedures, specifications, and other customer & quality requirements.
- Enforce the 6S policy and overall cleanliness of the facility.
- Manage safety non-compliance in a timely manner and work with team leads to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure team members adhere to standard operating procedures (standard work).
- Participate in daily production meetings/communications and conduct Team Lead meetings.
- Proactively eliminate hazards within departments and ensure safe operating practices are demonstrated.
- Engage in complex problem-solving and decide on actions to take (e.g., Kaizen).
- Participate in planning and equipment maintenance and repairs to support the production schedule.
- Oversee and manage maintenance of all equipment, including preventive and predictive repairs.
- Keep the Manager, Operations informed of and track machine breakdown reasons, working to prevent them.
- Oversee the training of new employees on standard work instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure required training is provided and validate the effectiveness of training.
- Proactively lead activities to eliminate scrap and improve product quality through problem-solving and investigation.
- Achieve productivity targets consistently and actively pursue continuous improvement.
- Oversee the operations of a large and/or complex area.
- Lead safety by example, complying with safe practices and ensuring employee compliance.
- Support quality and compliance by adhering to all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements.
- Establish/support plans to meet/exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD), and financial objectives.
- Ensure team members have the required knowledge and skills prior to performing job duties independently, including conducting, documenting, and evaluating training effectiveness.
- Maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Associate’s degree (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership role (Required)
- Manufacturing experience (Required)
- Machining experience (Preferred)
- Experience in an FDA-regulated environment (Preferred)
