About the role
As an Operations Engineer at PPG's Monroeville Research & Development, you will be a crucial part of our Specialty Synthesis Group (SSG) operations. The Operations Engineer will oversee the Plant’s PLC system, ensure operational uptime, and support plant projects, growth, and process improvements. This position is onsite in Monroeville, PA and reports to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and modify existing PLC program.
- Help support and maintain process control systems, HMI, historian, iFix, and SCADA systems.
- Provide operational support to maintain system documentation and software backups.
- Actively participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) and perform Management of Change (MOC) when needed.
- Provide real‑time engineering operational support including control system, instrumentation, and process equipment issues.
- Project work: manage controls work and operational requirements as required.
- Identify areas of improvement for automation, safety, and operational improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.).
- Controls experience with PLCs, SCADA, historian, instrumentation, and industrial controls.
- Chemical and manufacturing experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and high level of safety awareness.
- Attention to detail, strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently throughout the day.
