About the role

The Department of Psychology in the College of Science at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for two tenure-track positions: one at the Assistant Professor level and one endowed position (Thompson Chair) at the full or associate professor level. We seek candidates with expertise in any area of Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology or closely related fields.

The department offers an I/O Psychology M.S. program following the scientist-practitioner model, combining research training, quantitative methods, and real-world application. Structured as a two-year cohort, the program includes coursework, a required internship, and either a thesis or capstone project. Students gain practical experience through applied projects, data analysis, and consulting-style work, preparing them for professional roles in industry or further doctoral study. The department also offers a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology and is launching a dedicated I/O Psychology Ph.D. program focused on rigorous scientific inquiry and organizational application.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active program of scholarship and secure external funding.
• Contribute to doctoral and master’s-level graduate training.
• Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in areas of expertise.
• For the endowed position: serve as founding Director of the I/O Ph.D. program, leading curriculum development, recruitment and admissions, doctoral student professional development, and program representation to university administration and external stakeholders.

Requirements

Candidates for the assistant professor position must have:

• A Ph.D. in I/O psychology or a closely related field.
• A developing program of peer-reviewed scholarship in I/O psychology or a closely related area.
• Evidence of potential to secure external funding.
• Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level.

Candidates for the endowed position must have:

• A Ph.D. in I/O psychology or a closely related field.
• A sustained record of I/O scholarship commensurate with appointment at the associate or full professor level.
• A history of securing external funding.
• Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring doctoral students.
• Experience in graduate program administration or academic leadership.
