About the role

The Department of Psychology in the College of Science at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for two faculty positions in Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology:

  • One tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level
  • One endowed position (Thompson Chair) at the full or associate professor level

Candidates with expertise in any area of Industrial and Organizational Psychology or closely related fields are encouraged to apply.

Department context

The department offers a Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology following the scientist-practitioner model, preparing students for applied careers through coursework, a required internship, and either a thesis or capstone project. The department is also launching a dedicated I/O Psychology Ph.D. program designed to provide focused doctoral training at the intersection of rigorous scientific inquiry and organizational application.

Responsibilities

Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)

  • Maintain an active program of scholarship and secure external funding
  • Contribute to doctoral and master’s-level graduate training
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in areas of expertise
  • Develop a productive research lab with competitive startup support
  • Receive teaching releases and light service workload in the first two years

Endowed Professor (A. Dale Thompson Professor of Leadership)

  • Serve as the founding Director of the new I/O doctoral program
  • Lead doctoral curriculum development
  • Oversee recruitment and admissions
  • Support doctoral student professional development
  • Represent the program to university administration and external stakeholders
  • Carry a substantially reduced teaching and service workload in the first three years

Requirements

Assistant Professor

  • Ph.D. in I/O psychology or a closely related field
  • Developing program of peer-reviewed scholarship in I/O psychology or a closely related area
  • Evidence of potential to secure external funding
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level

Endowed Professor

  • Ph.D. in I/O psychology or a closely related field
  • Sustained record of I/O scholarship commensurate with appointment at the associate or full professor level
  • History of securing external funding
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring doctoral students
  • Experience in graduate program administration or academic leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience in doctoral program administration, doctoral student mentorship, and external funding are especially encouraged to apply.
