Open Rank Faculty of Anatomy position at the Harlem campus of Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM). This is a 12-month, full-time, exempt role.
About the role
The Department of Anatomy seeks a faculty member to teach human gross anatomy to osteopathic medical students, balancing teaching, research, and service. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.O., M.D., or equivalent) or a master's degree with two years of relevant teaching experience.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a content expert and teach Clinical Anatomy, Embryology, and Neuroanatomy courses for osteopathic medical students.
- Support the teaching mission of the department, fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
- Participate in faculty development, campus committee membership and leadership, curricular development, applicant interviews, and student advising.
- Perform independent research/scholarly activity and mentor student research.
- Contribute to the academic mission through professional service at the campus, university, and organizational levels (local, regional, national, and international).
- Additional teaching opportunities available for the MS in Interdisciplinary Studies in Biological and Physical Sciences, including Clinical Anatomy, Embryology, and Neuroanatomy courses.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree in anatomy or other terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.O., or M.D.), or a master's degree in anatomy with two years of relevant teaching experience.
- Experience with human donor dissection required; experience with plastinated specimens and virtual anatomy resources is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy (MS Office Suite, online learning management systems such as Canvas, Poll Everywhere, Zoom).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of and adherence to relevant rules and regulations (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA).
- Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to learn new programs, including ExamSoft, iClicker, and online learning management systems (Canvas, Poll Everywhere, Zoom).
Working Conditions
- Extensive use of computers, task trainers, and simulators.
- Extensive time sitting and standing.
- Able to lift up to 5-10 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods in a lab setting.
- In-person position at the Harlem campus with occasional travel to professional academic conferences, as approved by the Department Chair.
Pay
USD 118,360–147,951 per year.
Schedule
- Shift: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
- Hours per week: 36.5.
- Early-release Fridays (upon approval).
