About the role
The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy (CBS), Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in visual system research. The successful candidate will join the James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute, a collaborative space for basic scientists and clinicians working on a wide range of blinding disorders.
Responsibilities
Teach in the Medical College of Georgia and/or the Augusta University Graduate School and mentor graduate students.
Establish a vigorous independent extramurally funded research program to complement the vision research strengths and goals of the institution.
Participate on various committees and provide public and professional service to the community and the department/college/University/USG.
Requirements
A doctoral degree in Medicine or PhD in Biological Sciences or equivalent.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate a strong potential for research including obtaining extramural funding.
Candidates at the Associate Professor and Professor level must possess external funding at the NIH R01 level and demonstrate potential for its continuation.
Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate evidence of ability as a teacher.
Candidates must demonstrate evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
Candidates must have successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
Candidates must possess desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Current extramural funding and demonstrated potential for its continuation.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time. Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds. Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds. Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds. The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices.
