About the role
The Department of Periodontics in the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor that is an outstanding clinician and educator with an outgoing personality, strong emotional intelligence, and ability to lead a nationally recognized periodontic residency program.
Responsibilities
Teaching - 65%
- Serve as an effective clinician-educator, providing high-quality instruction grounded in current clinical practice and educational best practices.
- Contribute to and support pre-doctoral and post-doctoral laboratory courses, including preparation, delivery, supervision, and learner evaluation.
- Deliver classroom instruction through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and other evidence-based teaching methods aligned with course objectives.
- Support both didactic and clinical learning environments to ensure students develop strong foundational knowledge and applied clinical competencies.
- Develop, administer, and provide informal assessments of student performance to guide learning, offer feedback, and support academic progression.
- Participate in faculty peer-review processes to promote continuous improvement in teaching quality, curriculum design, and instructional effectiveness.
Clinical/Patient Care - 20%
- Demonstrates dignity and respect for the patient and family by actively honoring their knowledge, value beliefs, and cultural background throughout the planning and delivery of care.
- Ensures patients and families receive timely, complete, and accurate information to support effective participation in care and decision-making.
Service - 5%
- Service on at least one intramural DCG committee.
Research/Scholarship - 10%
- Publishation of at least one peer reviewed paper a year, or .75 depending on effort and rank.
Qualifications
- DMD, DDS, BDS, or equivalent, completion of CODA accredited periodontology residency program.
- Teaching license or unrestricted license to practice dentistry from the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
- Teaching experience in graduate clinics and pre-doctoral clinics.
- Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
- Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
- Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of interest in digital dentistry and AI in periodontics and periodontal education.
- IV sedation permit, Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology.
- Minimum 2 years experience in private or university based periodontal practice, with experience in diagnosing and surgical and nonsurgical therapy of periodontitis, placement of implants, bone grafts sinus augmentation, gingival grafts, laser based therapy.

- Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
- Advancement through the faculty ranks at Augusta University is only through the annual Promotion and Tenure process in which faculty may apply if eligible (typically five-year increments).
