On-Site Machinist II

Machines

  • Uses machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders.
  • Sets up, adjusts or operates basic or specialized machine tools.
  • Measures, examines or tests completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Calculates dimensions or tolerances.
  • Maintains machine tools in proper operational condition.
  • Operates equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings or engineering information.
  • Programs computers or electronic instruments.
  • Diagnostics machine tool malfunctions.
  • Lays out, measures and marks metal stock.
  • Fits and assembles parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Sets up or operates metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding or cutting equipment.
  • Installs repaired parts into equipment or installs new equipment.
  • Checks work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated or cooled.
  • Designs fixtures, tooling or experimental parts.
  • Prepares working sketches for the illustration of product appearance.
  • Tests experimental models under simulated operating conditions.
  • Installs experimental parts or assemblies into machines or mechanisms.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of various metals and measurements used in machining processes.
  • Knowledge of machinist, CAD and/or CAM software.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and its application.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of monitoring gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Physical Demands

  • Requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination.
  • Ability to live lifting 50 pounds or more and standing for extended periods of time.
