Key Responsibilities
- Install engine radiators, engine block heating systems, and circuit breakers according to manufacturer specifications and customer requirements.
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections, and testing on engine/generator packages.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical and electrical issues across supported systems.
- Maintain accurate and timely service documentation, including maintenance logs, inspection reports, and work orders.
- Ensure all tasks are carried out in compliance with local codes, Fabick Cat safety protocols, and customer site requirements.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customer personnel and Fabick Cat support teams regarding job progress, recommendations, and service needs.
- Manage on-site tools, parts, and inventory efficiently and responsibly.
- Represent Fabick Cat with professionalism, technical excellence, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of proven hands-on mechanical or engine experience.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and mechanical schematics.
- Experience with rigging and lifting with the use of an overhead crane or similar.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Highly organized and able to work independently in a customer environment.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Mechanical Knowledge: Familiarity with radiator components (core, tanks, hoses, fittings, fans, thermostats, etc.), familiarity with electrical systems 12-480 volts, familiarity with diesel engines.
- Installation Skills: Ability to mount, secure, and connect radiators to engines or piping systems, understanding torque specs, alignment, and mounting brackets.
- Maintenance & Inspection: Performing routine inspections on the engine and generator systems, checking fluid levels and filling as necessary, safe draining and refilling of coolant, knowledge of antifreeze/coolant types and mixing ratios.
- Tool Proficiency: Wrenches, torque tools, screwdrivers, and heavy-duty impacts, radiator pressure tester, leak detection kits (UV dyes, pressure testers), infrared thermometers or thermal cameras (for heat mapping), hose clamp tools and pliers.
- Preferred Qualifications: 1-2 years of proven hands-on experience with mechanical installation or engine repairs, technical certification or formal training in mechanical, electrical, or diesel engine systems, prior experience in a field service or customer-facing technician role, familiarity with Caterpillar (CAT) equipment, OSHA safety certification or other workplace safety training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in various physical positions, including bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Comfortable working in different environments, including mechanical rooms, outdoor areas, and tight spaces.
Work Schedule
Full-time, ON SITE, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime, after-hours, or weekend work based on customer needs.
