About the role
KUER seeks an on-call fill-in host to operate the radio broadcast board during weekday or weekend shifts as needed. This role involves delivering local newscasts, playing back program segments and other audio, and may include all KUER shifts. Hosting is performed on-site at the KUER facility.
Responsibilities
- Operates radio broadcast board on an on-call, fill-in basis for KUER
- Covers shifts including weekday mornings (5 a.m. to 9 a.m.), weekday mid-days (8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.), weekday afternoons (2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.), and weekend shifts between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Delivers multiple local newscasts live on-air during all weekday shifts
- Introduces and plays back long-form local feature stories
- Plays back underwriting messages, show promotions, and other audio during local breaks
- Writes and delivers weather and emergency updates and station promotions during local breaks
- Responsible for making seamless transitions between national broadcast and local newscasts and breaks
- Assists in operating the board during KUER fund drives
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, or a related field, and one year of previous professional experience in the news field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for one year of related work experience). Demonstrated oral and written communications skills and an understanding of Public Radio and radio broadcasting are required.
Preferences
- Two or more years of experience as a morning or afternoon anchor at a public radio station or similar news environment
- Experience with Wide Orbit automation system
- Experience using Burli newscast software
- Familiarity with NPR programs and news magazines
Pay
$18 - $24 per hour
