About the role
This is a part-time seasonal position as a Game Day Public Address Announcer for the San Diego Gulls Hockey Club home games, including pre-season, regular season, and playoffs. The Announcer will also make regular public appearances in the community and numerous voice-over recordings during the season. The Public Address Announcer will present a distinctive voice to the San Diego Gulls home game presentation, handling all hockey announcements, introductions of entertainment teams, visiting lineups, pre-intro video moments, and pre-game, in-game, and post-game announcements as directed by the Game Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties and responsibilities customarily associated with the position of an announcer for an American Hockey League (AHL) team for pre-season, regular season, and playoff home games.
- Serve as Announcer/MC for special events and public appearances.
- Perform prepared scripts and maintain hockey game flow.
- Operate in a “Live Production” environment, demonstrating familiarity with the pace and flexibility needed to improvise and adjust on the fly.
- Observe all reasonable rules and regulations adopted by the San Diego Gulls Hockey Club.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- College degree in broadcasting, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in sports and hockey is not mandatory but highly preferred.
- Comfortable being in front of large crowds.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays; must be available to work all Gulls home games.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Able to attend community-related events on behalf of the Gulls organization.
- Must be an effective public speaker with experience as an announcer.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience required.
- This position is on-site.
Pay
The starting hourly rate for this position is $28.50 per hour.
