Play by Play Announcer

Listen UP Radio, part of the Morgan Murphy Media company, is a family-owned business based in Houghton, MI. We prioritize our community and are seeking play-by-play announcers for high school sports across our four radio stations.

About the Role

Cover football, volleyball, soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball games for schools including Calumet, Houghton, Hancock, Jeffers, Lake Linden, and their opponents. Hours are based on scheduled games, with each game paid a flat rate of $80.

Responsibilities

• Arrive early to set up equipment, record coach interviews, and prepare for the broadcast (pregame typically starts 20 minutes before the listed start time).
• Research participating teams to deliver a complete and accurate broadcast.
• Track in-game statistics.
• Follow the broadcast format and collaborate with the board operator to ensure all scheduled advertisements are played.
• Read live copy for advertisements, intros, and sponsorships during the broadcast.
• Provide a summary of the completed game for the sports department’s next-day reports.

Requirements

• Expertise in the sports you will broadcast.
• Positive and uplifting delivery, avoiding negativity, bias, or complaints about participants, officials, or schools.
• Understanding of broadcast flow and adherence to the designed format.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with students, schools, coaches, officials, and the public.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
