Responsibilities

  • Answer phone calls in the Bureau’s Market Section; take messages or forward callers to voice mail as warranted
  • Process no-fault provider overcharge complaints from insurers for the No-Fault Unit and complaints filed against insurers that allege unpaid arbitration awards issued by the Arbitration Forums Inc. and the American Arbitration Association
  • Enter required data to set up files and scan documents into the NYSCIS System
  • Send files to the no-fault supervisor for assignment to examiners
  • Collect and sort mail for the No-Fault and Excess Line units, including processing penalty checks and scanning correspondence on assigned complaints into NYSCIS
  • Schedule meetings and reserve conference rooms upon request
  • Register visitors into the database for entry into DFS offices in New York City
  • Handle requisitions for supplies for the Market Section through the Statewide Financial System and order calendars yearly
  • Assist each year in verifying the number of Insurance Law books for examiners and distribute to each unit
  • Maintain the Emergency Contact List spreadsheet by collecting information from each examiner for updating as necessary
  • Handle all incoming mail on the 6th floor
  • Insert meeting information into the Project Sunlight database

Appointment Method

Appointment may be via the eligible list for 26-711010, transfer under Civil Service Law §70.1, or the Governor’s Program to Hire Individuals and Veterans with Disabilities under Civil Service Law §55-b/c. NY HELPS

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). During the program, appointments may be made non-competitively; all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. Employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to convert to competitive status within one year without examination and will receive the same rights and privileges as competitive-class employees. While serving in a NY HELPS title, employees may take any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Salary

$36,232 – $44,828 annually. Positions in the New York City metropolitan area and Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
