The Program Director of Nursing supervises the BSN program at the Liverpool Campus, focusing on meeting New York Office of Professions standards, CCNE standards, and achieving acceptable NCLEX pass rates and graduation rates.
About the Role
The Program Director of Nursing manages the resources for the nursing program under the guidance of the Campus Director. They ensure a supportive environment for quality instruction and monitor academic records to ensure adherence to college policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manage the nursing program to achieve desired results and implement corrective action as needed.
- Oversee interviewing, hiring, and supervision of nursing instructional, clinical, and support staff.
- Develop, implement, and coordinate programs and services to support nursing instructors in their teaching careers.
- Mentor faculty members to enhance their teaching styles and support professional growth.
- Initiate and assist with policy/procedure development related to the nursing program.
- Represent the nursing program within the community and promote its professional image.
- Collect and analyze classroom material to make recommendations for course consistency and effectiveness.
- Achieve division goals for continuing students and prepare the master schedule to maximize efficiency while maintaining high-quality instruction.
- Support the transfer of credits and articulation agreements.
- Attend meetings as scheduled and participate in retention and transition teams.
- Manage academic reporting requirements for federal, state, and accrediting commissions.
- Utilize Banner Registration and SRS systems and facilitate the use of ATI for student success in the NCLEX process.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and communicate action plans for teaching opportunities to nursing instructors.
- Interact with nursing faculty on a regular basis to identify opportunities for individual and/or group training and development.
- Conduct in-service training and handle inquiries and problematic situations.
- Supervise advisement of students academically at risk and encourage and motivate students to clarify personal and career goals.
- Participate in campus retention efforts and academic community opportunities.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree from an accredited institution with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
- Two years’ experience in supervisor capacity in the academic arena, preferably as an educational nursing director.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Nursing faculty teaching must hold a valid and unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
