Responsibilities

  • Supports personal hygiene and daily living needs of patients.
  • Ensures patient safety during treatment and preparation of treatment spaces.
  • Communicates patient feedback to appropriate staff and reports any variations from the patient's plan of care.
  • Documents patient activities and responses to activities accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Cleans and prepares patient rooms, including high dusting, vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, and spot cleaning.
  • Assists with patient care tasks such as repositioning, turning, chair transfers, and ambulation.
  • Provides transportation assistance and patient amenities like newspapers and mail.
  • Maintains a safe and efficient patient care environment by cleaning and organizing equipment, rooms, and workspaces.
  • Answers call lights and relays patient requests to appropriate resources.
  • Prepares exam rooms and equipment according to provider protocols.
  • Maintains sterile processing and ensures equipment is returned to the appropriate room within acceptable times.
  • Manages clinical care stock and restocks patient care areas independently.
  • Serves as a backup office assistant, answering phones, transcribing messages, and assisting with intake and scheduling.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Completion of first clinical rotation as Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • Completion of a 75-hour state-approved Nurse Assistant course or 6 months of Nurse Assistant experience required.
  • Previous customer service, cleaning, food service, and/or patient-related experience preferred.
  • One to three months of on-the-job experience to learn hospital procedures and work routines preferred.
  • Previous experience in patient care settings such as hospitals, clinics, or nursing homes preferred.
  • Previous experience with direct patient contact preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions, follow schedules, communicate information, read simple and clear instructions, and complete reports.
  • Able to collect, record, and report patient needs to the appropriate caregiver.
  • Requires ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills commensurate with job description.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by supervisor.
