Nursing Assistant (NA) - Care Transition Unit
About the Role
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, the Nursing Assistant performs specific responsibilities within the framework of the NAI listing granted by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. This role may also include serving as an Observer, monitoring assigned patients for a specified time period.
Responsibilities
- Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) activities, including problem-solving, data collection, and adherence to safe practices, infection control, and disaster regulations.
- Engages in cost savings activities and education, attending staff development programs and fulfilling annual mandatory requirements.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff and students as delegated by the supervising RN.
- Follows hospital and unit-based policies, providing quality patient care and maintaining active NAI licensure/certification.
- Builds interpersonal relations, listens to others, and provides constructive feedback to foster teamwork and communication.
- Seeks help and utilizes the chain of command appropriately.
- Contributes to unit, department, and hospital goals, including cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
- Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, assists in direct patient care and completes delegated tasks as outlined by the NC Department of Health and Human Services.
- Monitors patients for escalating behaviors and alerts the nurse if there is a risk of harm to the patient or others.
- Maintains observation levels according to the patient’s plan of care and communicates effectively with the care team.
- Documents accurately in the medical record and provides hazard surveillance to reduce risks in the patient’s environment.
- Engages patients in distraction activities as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (preferred) or higher.
- NAI listing with the NC Department of Health and Human Services (required).
- Current American Heart Association HeartSaver or higher certification (required).
- De-escalation training (e.g., Non-violent Crisis Intervention or other program adopted by ECU Health). If not current at hire, must complete within 90 days of employment and maintain without lapse (not required for Ambulatory clinical positions).
Pay
Clinical Ladder Pay Range: $18.00 - $21.97 per hour.
