Nursing Assistant - Med/Surg Oncology - 12hr Shifts

Fairview is seeking a Nursing Assistant for M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This position involves 48 hours every two weeks on the Night shift, with 12-hour shifts and every third weekend. The role is eligible for benefits including medical, dental, and more.

About This Unit

Join our Med/Surg-Oncology Unit, a 31-bed adult Medical Oncology team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient experiences. We care for diverse patient populations, specializing in oncology and end-of-life care. Our interdisciplinary team supports both patients and their families, creating a compassionate and impactful environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional nurse/caregiver in delivering patient care, transporting patients/equipment, and maintaining patient rooms.
• Perform routine patient care duties:
  • Personal grooming, bathing, toileting
  • Feeding and skin care (clean/sterile dressing changes, ointments/creams)
  • Oral hygiene and specimen collection/testing
  • Positioning/ambulating patients and changing linens
  • Promptly answering call lights
• Monitor patient condition by recording weights, input/output, vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation), and reporting unusual findings to the RN.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including orienting patients/families and accounting for belongings.
• Transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies, ensuring timely arrivals for appointments.
• Clean, set up, and maintain rooms and equipment; order and stock supplies.
• Accurately document tasks performed on appropriate forms.
• Perform other tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required (Ontrack participants must obtain this upon program completion).
• One or more of the following:
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview-sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
  • Six months of recent direct care experience in long-term care, home care, or acute care settings (e.g., Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant, Emergency Room Technician).
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.
  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (not required to maintain after hiring or for transfers).
