About the Role
A school nurse's aide provides essential support to the school nurse by managing daily student health needs, administering basic first aid, and documenting visits. They work under the supervision of a licensed nurse, administering medication, assisting with health screenings, and maintaining clinic records to ensure student safety. In all aspects, they support school nurses in promoting a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Administer basic first aid for injuries and illnesses.
- Give, document, and manage doctor-approved medication for students.
- Assist students with conditions like diabetes, asthma, or allergies (e.g., blood glucose monitoring).
- Document daily health office visits, injuries, and communicable diseases.
- Act as a liaison between the school, parents, and health providers, notifying parents of serious injuries or illnesses.
- Support the school nurse with vision, hearing, or scoliosis screenings.
- Maintain inventory of health office supplies and ensure a clean environment.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Health Coordinator, Building Principal, and other Central Office administrators.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with children, preferably in a school or healthcare setting
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preferred
Reports to: Building Nurse and Health Coordinator
Schedule
186.5 days; 8.0 hours per day (does not include a 30-minute lunch).
Pay
Starting at $16.81 per hour, commensurate up to Step 7 with verification of previous years of relevant work experience.
