About the Role

Haven Behavioral Healthcare, an Oceans Healthcare Company, is a behavioral healthcare system providing high-quality, specialty behavioral health services for individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues. The Nurse Supervisor provides supervision of all patient care areas in the hospital, serving as a managerial and clinical link between the Director of Nursing and/or Nurse Manager and department direction in their absence. This role promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization while meeting the requirements and essential functions of the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient care requirements on each unit by making rounds throughout all areas of the hospital.
• Ensure departmental staffing plans are implemented appropriately and serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
• Assist staff in efficiently utilizing resources to meet patient care requirements and professional responsibilities.
• Provide immediate follow-up, documentation, and communication of incidents to the appropriate manager and director.
• Respond to emergency situations and assist as necessary.
• Act as a resource in identifying and solving administrative/operational problems.
• Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for timely problem-solving.
• Interpret and ensure adherence to hospital and nursing philosophy, policies, and procedures.
• Report significant incidents (e.g., patient/family concerns, physician issues, safety matters) to the administrator-on-call or DON/Nurse Manager.
• Provide ongoing feedback to staff on performance in collaboration with DON/Nurse Manager.
• Assist with nursing personnel performance evaluations and communicate staff needs for continuing education.
• Provide education, remediation, and assessment of skills competencies as directed.
• Monitor documentation for adherence to rules and regulations and ensure environment of care requirements are met (e.g., quality logs, infection control).
• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care and treatment modalities.
• Identify expected outcomes, prescribe interventions, and evaluate effectiveness in relation to patient conditions.
• Conduct ongoing patient assessments from admission to discharge and initiate crisis intervention as needed.
• Provide patient and family/significant other education on identified learning needs.
• Demonstrate knowledge of psychiatric disorders and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
• Administer medications safely, educate patients on prescribed medications, and recognize adverse drug reactions.
• Review, revise, and update medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes.
• Transcribe and implement physician’s orders and document care, progress, and responses accurately.
• Follow up on client care responsibilities and communicate current needs to staff for continuity of care.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the resident working state.
• Minimum of 3 years of Registered Nursing experience.
• Psychiatric nursing experience required.
• Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Work Environment

• Subject to frequent interruptions and multiple calls/inquiries.
• High-paced and potentially stressful atmosphere; requires mental and physical coping abilities.
• May experience disagreeable odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behavior.
• Spends approximately 90% or more of time indoors in a building with temperature variations.
