Major Functions
The Nursing Supervisor participates as an active member of the clinical management team, providing oversight of all Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Pharmacy Technicians including staff supervision, staff training, and quality assurance activities which ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards related to coordination of client healthcare services, client education, and access to medication.
When needed, the Nursing Supervisor may be required to provide direct services to clients.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise RNs who are responsible for client assessment, education, triage, and coordination of medical services with Odyssey House medical providers and co-located/ community-based healthcare services.
- Supervise LPNs and Pharmacy Technicians who are responsible for the provision of access to medication and all other applicable related activities (receipt, storage, documentation, destruction, etc.).
- Train all Odyssey House RNs, LPNs, Pharmacy Technicians, and applicable lay-staff in procedures for overseeing client access to medication and assesses competency through direct observation.
- Act as a liaison for NYS DOH BNE for all matters relating to 3A licensing (including maintaining licensure, overseeing destruction procedures, and maintaining documentation).
- Conduct regularly scheduled quality assurance reviews to ensure that access to medication activities comply with all internal standards and regulatory requirements, including those set forth in the OASAS LSB 2012-04 and the NYS DOH requirements for institutional dispensers of controlled substances.
- Ensure proper storage, access, record keeping, and destruction of all controlled and non-controlled medications.
- Develop and monitor systems that ensure that medication orders are transmitted in a timely manner to the pharmacy and that all medication deliveries are reconciled, over the counter medication access complies with standing orders, and that medication access is in place during passes and overnight leaves.
- Develop, implement, and monitor systems which determine client suitability for self-administration without oversight and ensures accurate recording of capacity testing for self-administration without oversight in the clinical record.
- Ensure that subordinate staff communicates with clinical staff regarding all client non-adherence with prescribed medication regiment.
- Supervise the maintenance of adequate and up-to-date records on all clients, as well as supervise record-keeping responsibilities of staff in accordance with applicable regulatory standards and Odyssey House policies.
- Affirm productivity of applicable subordinate staff and providers by running reports and determining number of services provided over a given time period.
- Act as client advocate, assuring that all clients' rights are respected and that all grievances and complaints associated with department or subordinate staff, are addressed in a timely and equitable manner in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate in all personnel actions, including recruitment, hiring, scheduling, evaluation, promotion, disciplinary action and separation of program staff.
- Monitor compliance with Workplace Safety policy and procedures.
- Conduct regular clinical and administrative meetings with subordinate staff.
- Complete all required in-service training seminars.
- Prepare monthly reports.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education/Training and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited nursing program with two (2) years' experience working in sub-acute residential care setting required.
- Current NYS Registered Professional Nurse required.
- In good standing with New York State Department of Education Professional Licensing Board and without any outstanding malpractice judgments.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience delivering supervision, staff training, and conducting quality assurance activities preferred.
- Nurse Executive Advanced Certification (NEA-BC) preferred.
- Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, Electronic Health Records, and Outlook programs).
