Location: Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital | Status: Contingent | Schedule: 12-hour midnight shifts, 100% inpatient, 100% adult patients, no call requirements, weekends required
About the Role
Henry Ford Health System is seeking a contingent Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Hospital Medicine team. This role focuses on providing comprehensive inpatient care for hospitalized and observation patients through admissions, daily rounding, clinical assessments, and ongoing management of acute and chronic medical conditions. The APP will evaluate acute clinical changes, develop evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians, and work closely with nursing, case management, consultants, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality patient care. This position offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license with a high degree of clinical autonomy and meaningful physician collaboration in a supportive hospital medicine environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive inpatient care for hospitalized and observation patients, including admissions and daily rounding.
- Perform clinical assessments and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Evaluate acute clinical changes and develop evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Work closely with nursing, case management, consultants, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Ensure timely documentation and facilitate transitions of care.
- Support quality and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications
- 1 year of experience in Hospital Medicine preferred.
- Graduate from an accredited NP or PA program.
- Current (or in-process) Michigan licensure.
- National certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA).
- BLS required; ACLS required (or obtained after hire).
Credentials
Education & Training
- Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Nurse Practitioner (NP): Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Licensure
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan, or in the process of applying (proof of application required).
Certification
- PA: Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- NP: National certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan (e.g., ANCC, AANP).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required (may be obtained after hire).
DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure
- PA: DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing.
- NP: DEA registration required through credentialing; NPs do not hold a Michigan CSL and will use their Michigan license number during the application process.
