About the role

NaphCare is hiring Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) to join our team of medical professionals in Torrington, Wyoming, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution. Full-time and part-time positions may be available.

As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to individuals in residence. This position operates within a controlled environment where security is a top priority. You will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans, and monitoring patients
  • Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes
  • Administering medications and providing instructions to patients
  • Monitoring and documenting patient health, including vital signs and medical histories
  • Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services
  • Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities
  • Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention
  • Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals
  • Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting relevant information
  • Conducting rounds and evaluating patients returning from off-site treatment
  • Admitting and discharging patients from the facility

Requirements

  • Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Wyoming
  • Current DEA registration
  • An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
  • Active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Certification by a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Strong organizational skills to track patient treatment plans and progress notes
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable healthcare laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adhere to a Code of Conduct while complying with all facility correctional healthcare policies and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
