About the role
VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS), an industry leader in Correctional Health Care, is seeking a PRN Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant to provide care at the Davidson County Detention Centers in Nashville, Tennessee. The role focuses on ambulatory care within a correctional environment, delivering basic medical services under physician supervision. This PRN position carries no managerial responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies throughout the facility
- Identify inmate/patient health problems and prescribe treatment under physician direction
- Implement medical care using physician-approved therapeutic regimens
- Provide education to inmates/patients, healthcare staff, and correctional staff
- Document all healthcare contacts
- Adhere to safety and security policies and participate in disaster drills
- Follow security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications
- Assign tasks to team members as needed
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices
- Attend required training and meetings
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited college/university NP/PA program
- Current state license or certification
- Experience in correctional health care is desired but not required
- Acute care experience is preferred
