About the role

We are looking for the right Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to perform medical assessments on United States Veterans as part of the VA's disability benefits process. In this role, you will review medical records electronically through a web portal and conduct focused, in-person physical exams on Veterans. You will document exam findings electronically as required by the VA. Note that this role does not involve making disability determinations, treating patients, or prescribing medication—those decisions are made solely by the United States Veterans Administration.

This is an in-person position that conducts disability assessments on an average of 3-5 Veterans per day, working in a clinical setting such as a purpose-built mobile clinic or medical office.

Responsibilities

  • Review medical records electronically via a web portal.
  • Perform focused, in-person physical exams on Veterans.
  • Electronically document exam findings required by the VA.
  • Analyze data from medical records and exam findings to complete questionnaires and form medical opinions.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NCCPA accredited) license in any U.S. state (license portability rules apply).
  • Providers with multiple state licenses preferred.
  • Able to commit to at least two weeks of travel each month (travel to assigned location Sunday evening, return to home city Friday evening or Saturday morning).
  • Proficient in using a computer and skilled in time management.
