Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Trauma Burn Intensive Care Unit - AM Weekends Only
About the Role
This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) role supports the Trauma Burn ICU (TBICU) and Neurological ICU (NICU), working as part of the interdisciplinary team to provide quality care for critically injured patients. Responsibilities include daily assessments, documentation, ventilator management, and developing plans of care. Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants will be considered for this opportunity.

Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans based on thorough physical and psychosocial assessments, focusing on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
- Provide patient and family education, prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and coordinate additional therapies.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
- Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
- Coordinate and participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
- Assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison between patients and other healthcare providers.
- Provide orientation, training, and educational workshops for new clinical personnel, patients, and staff.
- Serve as an expert clinical resource in the specialty area.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments, interpret patient data, and assist with procedures per collaborative agreement.
- Coordinate plan of care, discharge, and specialty referrals to meet age-specific patient needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Nursing with an Adult Acute Care NP certification, or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program (work experience may NOT substitute for education).
- Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing, or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of employment.
- Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required.

Schedule
This is a 1.0 salaried FTE position with a weekend schedule of three (3), 12-hour shifts per week (5:00 AM – 5:00 PM), plus four (4) hours per week dedicated to administrative activities. Weekend schedules are defined as either Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The team offers a rotating holiday schedule.
APPs accepting this weekend position agree to a one (1) year commitment. Any exceptions must be approved by APP Leadership.
Pay
APPs working exclusively weekend days are eligible for a $1,666.67 monthly stipend ($20,000 annualized).
Extra shifts worked outside the required weekend schedule are paid at $80/hour (AM) or $90/hour (PM).

Full-time APPs receive a $2,000 annual allowance for continuing medical education (CME) opportunities.
