Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Trauma - AM

Full-time, benefited position with 12-hour AM shifts (6am-6pm), working 14-16 shifts per month. Weekends and holidays are required.

Pay

• Weekend shift differential: $50 per shift
• Annual CME allowance: $2,000 (usable for recertification, fees, courses, etc.)

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider will work with the multidisciplinary team to manage trauma and burn patients on the Trauma floors. Responsibilities include daily assessments, progress notes, placing orders, discharge orders, and consulting with other services and ancillary providers.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical care and treatment to surgical patients under the direction of a collaborating physician, adhering to Alabama Board of Nursing or Board of Medical Examiners regulations.
• Coordinate patient care plans, discharges, and specialty referrals to meet age-specific needs.
• Plan and provide health care education for patients, families, and other providers.
• Perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments.
• Interpret, analyze, and evaluate patient medical records and social data.
• Perform and/or assist with procedures per collaborative agreement.
• Formulate and implement patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including education, prescriptions, and additional testing.
• Ensure complete documentation of assessments, care plans, and care provided.
• Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
• Participate in performance and quality improvement activities.
• Assist in coordinating research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and liaison.
• Provide orientation and training for new clinical personnel.
• Conduct workshops, in-service training, and distribute educational materials for patients and staff.
• Serve as an expert clinical resource in the specialty area.
• Ensure a safe environment for patients and others.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional growth.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Nursing with Acute Care NP certification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program (work experience may NOT substitute for education).
• Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Acute Care Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required (or obtain within 30 days of employment).
• Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required.
