About the role

Utilizes clinical expertise, programming and informatics knowledge, and strategic insight to design, optimize, and maintain clinical information systems within the Health System.

Helps identify the clinical data requirements of the patients across the Healthcare System as it relates to institutional strategic goals for Quality and Safety.

Ensures delivery of Trauma Center data to the American College of Surgeons, Virginia Department of Health and internal departments to maintain the Level I Trauma Center certification.

Oversees the research data components for the trauma program.

Responsible for the completion of the monthly dashboard reports and specific performance improvement reports outlined by the Director of Trauma or Trauma Medical Director.

Responsible for the oversight and management of the trauma registry with the goal of providing timely, accurate, reliable and accountable data to assist in decision-making for the trauma center.

Responsible for the data validation for all submissions to the State EMS / Trauma Registry, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Trauma Data Bank and the ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP).

Directly responsible for the trauma registry and reports on files for assigned projects.

Agsgregates, analyzes, interprets and trends data.

Ensures the accuracy and timely entry of data into the database through scheduled data scrubbing reports that are distributed to the trauma registrars.

This activity ensures the hospital follows all standards as they relate to Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons and National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB).

Covers the coordination and submission of the defined data submissions to TQIP, NTDB and VDH in a timely manner based on the requirements of each organization.

Serves as the educational coordinator for teaching/updating the trauma registrars of changes in data collection due to NTDB updates, research projects or quality initiatives.

Liaison with the trauma database vendor and implements the necessary data filed changes to reflect the need of the Trauma Service as identified by the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Director.

Informs the Trauma Program Director and Trauma Medical Director of any concerns regarding inaccurate data collection or data sources.

Maintains the data dictionary in our database by updating the electronic reference fields as changes are identified.

Handles and writes data requests from the data registry in compliance with the department policy.

Produces the monthly/quarterly Trauma Multidisciplinary Performance Improvement Committee and reports as determined by the Trauma Program Director.

Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager in maximizing the efficiency of abstracting the required data elements from the medical record and other available sources by reporting critical gaps in the medical record documentation.

Participates in ongoing preparation for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) site visit.

Collaborates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team to promote the goals and objectives of the Trauma Program.

Abstracts all data elements from the medical record required for participation in the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and submission to TQIP, VDH, as well as customized data elements needed to support trauma program functions for all patients accessioned into the trauma registry.

Directly responsible for the assimilation of data and project management for IRB approved research project, specific to the trauma program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from accredited nursing program, Master's degree in related field within 5 years of hire.
  • At least 3 years of progressively more responsible supervisory experience (preferably at the manager level) as a registered nurse in a patient care environment required, five years preferred.
  • Licence to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider Preferred Requirements.
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification preferred but must be obtained with 3 years of hire.
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) preferred.
  • Completion of a Trauma ICD 10 course or obtain within 6 months of hire and a refresher every five years.
  • Completion of Trauma Registry Course that includes the following: abstraction, data management, report/analysis, data validation and HIPAA or obtain within 6 months of hire.

Pay

$94,993.60 - $151,985.60 annually.
