Duties
- Assists the Director of Nursing in implementing and directing all nursing services.
- Interfaces closely with the medical staff, administration, nursing staff, and other departments to achieve the hospital's goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the delivery of quality general and psychiatric nursing care.
- Staffs, trains, and develops nursing staff.
- Revise nursing policies and procedures, standards of performance, and communicate nursing issues to medical staff, department directors, and administration.
- Participates in departmental and team meetings to discuss patient care and develop treatment plans.
- Manages scheduling and staffing for the nursing department, ensuring coverage, minimizing overtime and agency use, and approving or denying time-off requests.
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing on maintaining a high level of service and quality nursing care.
- Collaborates with other departments such as Intake and Clinical Services to ensure an efficient and effective flow of information regarding patient care between the departments.
- Pairs with the Director of Nursing to routinely review job assignments and utilization of staff to ensure appropriate resources for safe, high quality nursing care.
- Analyzes statistical data on inpatient programs to determine and respond to trends.
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and People Services for staff recruitment and retention.
- Provides support to the department as necessary.
Qualifications
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Associate's degree in nursing required.
- Current Registered Nurse license as required by state regulations in which the facility operates.
- One year experience in a psychiatric health care facility preferred.
- CPR certification is required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
- De-escalation certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
