Supports clinical management of patient care delivery to produce quality patient care with optimal outcomes while maintaining smooth and efficient operations. Provides direction, mentorship, and serves as a resource for decision-making and problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Facilitates unit and facility teams/committees that impact practice, integrating unit initiatives with facility-wide goals.
- Demonstrates effective communication and assists in conflict resolution among healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Exercises discretion and judgment in delegating patient care activities and coordinating unit operations.
- Assists staff in professional development and identifies resources to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Ensures staff education on risk management and compliance issues.
- Interprets and evaluates employee satisfaction survey data.
- Ensures compliance with State Nurse Practice Act, Board of Nursing Regulations, regulatory standards, and organizational policies.
- Leads quality improvement processes, recognizing trends and exploring evidence-based opportunities for improvement.
- Monitors patient care satisfaction and supports Magnet designation initiatives.
- Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop policies and procedures based on benchmark data.
- Supports JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals by designing safe clinical systems and processes.
- Ensures quality patient care by managing clinical practice and advocating for patient rights and service utilization.
- Documents and evaluates patient care activities per standards, participating in performance improvement related to documentation.
- Assists in budget preparation, planning, monitoring, and execution for operational and capital budgets.
- Educates team members on financial implications of patient care decisions.
- Allocates nursing resources based on patient acuity and care needs.
- Ensures nurses are actively involved in decisions affecting their practice.
- Serves as a role model and resource, guiding staff in developing clinical and leadership skills.
- Participates in staff and patient needs assessments to determine program requirements for the unit.
- Integrates high ethical standards and core values into daily work activities.
- Develops unit activities supporting excellence in clinical practice and advocates for documented best practices.
- Coordinates with clinical educators to design programs assisting staff progression from novice to expert.
- Participates in unit employee selection, interviewing, hiring, and retention practices.
- Consults and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care management.
- Evaluates staff competency through direct observation, peer review, orientation, and employee input for performance evaluations.
- Evaluates own performance based on professional practice standards, studies, regulations, and organizational criteria.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN required.
- Three years of progressive clinical and management experience in a patient care area.
- Two years of demonstrated competency in a charge role.
- AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider certification.
- Registered Nurse licensure in New Jersey.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (or must obtain by end of orientation) if assigned to Critical Care, Intermediate Care Unit, Emergency Department, Neuro Units, Cardiology Inpatient at Hopewell, Peds ED, PACU, Interventional Radiology, CNI, Observation, or Hospital at Home.
- 8 hours of Stroke-related Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours annually if assigned to the above units.

Pay
Salary range: $118,019.20–$160,451.20 for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may vary based on assigned hours, position status (e.g., part-time), and other factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and market data. The range reflects base compensation and does not include bonuses, incentive compensation, or benefits.
Schedule
Scheduled weekly hours: 40 (full-time). Usual workday: 8 hours.
