UMKC School of Science and Engineering, rated R1 by the Carnegie Research Classification, seeks a Program Coordinator (Sr. Research Assistant) for an NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) project: Interdisciplinary Graduate Training through Research in Artificial Intelligence and Secure Networked Sensing to Mitigate the Crisis of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. This project aims to prepare master’s and doctoral students to address the alcohol and drug crisis through convergent research in AI, secure networked sensing, cybersecurity, sensor technologies, and healthcare/legal partnerships.

About the role

This is a full-time (100% FTE), benefit-eligible, unranked 12-month academic appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate NRT project activities, including trainee recruitment and tracking trainee progress.
  • Ensure active participation of trainees and faculty in program activities.
  • Organize and implement the annual summer 1-week workshop (summer camp) and regular seminars.
  • Oversee new trainee research efforts developed via NRT program activities.
  • Manage program/project communication (flyers, posters, presentations, website) and establish internal/external partnerships.
  • Lead monthly/bi-weekly collaboration meetings and follow-ups.
  • Coordinate future funding opportunities and degree program updates.
  • Organize advisory board meetings and serve as the point of contact for communication and tasks.
  • Support the Program Director (PD) in generating and submitting program reports.
  • Assist the PD in budgeting, managing, and reporting on project finances, ensuring logistics are in place.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
