About the role
Wevise is a nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable and build a more diverse and inclusive tech community through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We're a team of committed volunteers from a diverse set of backgrounds who are committed to leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).
Key Responsibilities
- Financial System Setup: Maintain Wevise’s foundational financial systems, including Stripe for donations and Mercury for banking.
- Bookkeeping & Reconciliation: Perform or oversee all bookkeeping activities, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring the accurate and timely entry of all financial data.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (Balance Sheets and Statements of Activities) on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Grant Management: Develop and maintain systems for tracking grant funds and preparing financial reports to fulfill grant application and reporting requirements.
- Budgeting & Analysis: Assist in the development of the annual organizational budget and provide regular updates on fundraising performance and expenditures.
- Donor & Fundraising Support: Provide financial oversight and reporting for fundraising campaigns and the management of a high volume of small donations.
- Compliance: Ensure the organization's financial activities are in full compliance with all applicable non-profit regulations and help prepare for future IRS Form 990 filings as the organization grows.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Proven experience in accounting or financial management. Prior non-profit experience is a significant plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with or a strong willingness to learn accounting software. Familiarity with financial platforms like Stripe and Mercury is highly desirable.
- System-Building Mindset: Ability to take initiative and build financial systems from the ground up, with a focus on creating efficient and scalable processes.
- Attention to Detail: Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in all work.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to the leadership team and other volunteers.
